Fluffy sled dogs all bursting with energy!

With hundreds of excited, fluffy sled dogs all bursting with energy as they fly across the snow, it is little wonder the annual Altitude 5000 Sled Dog Challenge is one of the most entertaining races you will ever witness.

Held over two days around the alpine village of Dinner Plain, the race is a free event the whole family can enjoy.

This unique event was the first Australian snow-based race of its kind. Having grown over the years, it not only showcases the best Australian sled dogs but also attracts teams from as far as Canada, the United States, and New Zealand.

Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes are the most common breeds of dogs raced. Both breeds are visually and physically powerful competitors given snow is a part of their natural habitat. Siberian Huskies are extremely quick on their paws, while the Alaskan Malamutes are known for their endurance over longer distances.

Grab your camera, winter woollies, and rug up for this exciting and exhilarating high country event exclusive to Dinner Plain.

Everyone is welcome to attend. However, please note that you are politely asked to leave your own canine at home as they will not be allowed entry during this particular race.

Please note, this is a popular event and we highly recommend pre-booking your accommodation.
